Thanks for a Great Season!

untitled shoot-0454

This Friday, September 26, we’ll close out the Tilton Farmers’ Market summer season with a gloriously beautiful, early fall day, lots of farm-fresh goodies, local tunes and friendly faces. What a wonderful season it’s been!

We were honored last month to be chosen by Governor Maggie Hassan as a site to sign into law New Hampshire’s new farm to plate legislation, and to generally acknowledge the value farmers’ markets bring to the state. At the same time, Market Manager Joan O’Connor was presented with a United States Department of Agriculture Certificate of Appreciation for her years of work in support of New Hampshire farmers markets. Wow! What an honor! Congratulations, again, Joan!

Many, many thanks to our fine vendors, loyal customers and many friends of the market for making this such a successful season. Special thanks to Grace Cohen, Mike Munhall and Dawn Forde for their help with all kinds of things this summer, as well as market helpers Michael Caplan and Garrison Gage. Many hands made for light work!

This effort doesn’t stop just because it’s the end of September. We’re rolling along full steam, planning for the ever-popular Tilton Winter Farmers’ Market, set to open on Saturday, December 13. But first—don’t miss the last SUMMER market of the season! We’ll be here, sending summer away in style, Friday, September 26, 3 to 7 at the Tanger Outlets. See you at the market!

Perfect Fall-Like Day for a Farmers’ Market!

Brad Myrick

With three weeks to go, the Tilton Farmers’ Market is still in full gear. It’s hard to beat the beautiful vegetables, fruits, cheeses, meats, artisan food products and crafts that we offer every Friday, so don’t miss out! There’s a crispiness in the air that hints of fall, and the sun is shining bright. A perfect day for a farmers’ market!

Music adds so much to a farmers’ market, and we’ve been so lucky to feature some of the region’s best musicians this year. Today’s music will be provided by guitarist Brad Myrick. Brad Myrick has a wide-ranging style—primarily jazz and rock, and his path has taken him around the globe and now back to New Hampshire, where he grew up. Stop by and enjoy the show!

Please spread the word that the Tilton Farmers’ Market will continue to be open through the end of September. We’ll take a short break, before opening the Tilton Winter Farmers’ Market in December, so stay tuned for more news on that!

See you at the market!

Lots to Celebrate!

untitled shoot-0457The holiday weekend ahead promises fine New Hampshire weather and lots of celebrations throughout the state. What a sweet time of year: the bright, warm days of late summer and the finest summer bounty from area farms and food producers, all available right here at the Tilton Farmers’ Market. We’re open Fridays, from 3 to 7 p.m., and we’re conveniently located at the Tanger Outlet Center in Tilton, New Hampshire. Whether you live right down the street, or you’re heading through town on your way to a relaxing vacation spot, you’ll find us here ready to fill your bags with great stuff!

We’ve been busy! Just a couple of weeks ago, Governor Maggie Hassan chose the Tilton Farmers’ Market as the perfect spot to sign into law New Hampshire’s new Farm-to-Plate legislation. This law establishes state policy “to encourage and support local food producers, farming, and fisheries, including businesses engaged in agriculture, the raising and care of livestock, dairy, fishing, foraging, and aquaculture, agritourism, horticulture, orchard management, maple syrup production, and the associated local and regional businesses that process, purchase, distribute, and sell such food throughout the state.”

How’s that for positive support of our growing food system? Governor Hassan visited the market, along with New Hampshire Commissioner of Agriculture Lorraine Merrill and USDA Farm Service Agency, State Executive Director, Jay Phinizy.  The prime sponsors of the SB 141 were Martha Fuller Clark, Tara Sad and John Reagan. Many other State of NH dignitaries also attended.

At that event, our own Market Manager Joan O’Connor was presented with a United States Department of Agriculture Certificate of Appreciation for her years of work in support of New Hampshire farmers markets. Congratulations, Joan!

Why are farmers markets so important? According to our own New Hampshire Department of Agriculture, “Farmers’ markets support communities by bringing the ambience of the farm to the city or town, by making fresh and nutritious food readily available, and by giving consumers the ability to purchase locally grown produce with ease.”

Celebrate summer by stopping by the Tilton Farmers’ Market. See you at the market!

Market to Open in Just Nine Days!

If winter seemed long in these parts, spring seemed even longer. But that’s all behind us! The sun is shining now, and the bounty of summer vegetables is almost ready for market. Best of all, the Tilton Farmers’ Market opens NEXT WEEK: Friday, June 27. The market will run weekly, Friday afternoons from 3 to 7 p.m., through September 26 at the Tanger Outlet Center in Tilton, New Hampshire. It’s a great spot (Exit 20 from I-93, on Route 3); you won’t miss it.

BL_LOGOWe’re in our second year now at the Tanger Outlet Center, and expecting the market to be better than ever. Many new vendors will join us this year (we’re at 40 vendors and still taking applications), and we’re excited about each and every one of them. Just one quick highlight: the Big Love food truck, serving up fresh burritos, will be on-site at every market. Eat while you shop, or take a few home with you!

Joan O’Connor spent her winter (in addition to running the amazing Tilton Winter Farmers’ Market) scouting around northern New England for the best vendors for the summer market, and she found them! The 2014 lineup of market vendors represents the full range of local fare: fresh vegetables, fruits, baked goods, farm-fresh meats, seafood, artisinal cheese, homemade jams and jellies, natural bodycare products, wine, breads, dog treats, salsa and dips, gourmet popcorn, honey, maple syrup, hand-crafted goods, locally-roasted coffee and more.

Be sure to subscribe to this site for regular market updates, and “like” us on Facebook. We’re grateful for each and every one of you for supporting the Tilton Farmers’ Market. See you next week!
